The Scottish international rugby player who now plays for Bath has been speaking to the BBC. He said: ““I love it here at the Rec. They sell it out pretty much every week I think and the fans get right behind the team, it’s the first time playing for a team that the city is fully behind I think. In Glasgow there’s obviously football there and in Paris it’s such a big city – the Stade Francais and PSG – so there’s a lot of other things going on. Whereas here in Bath it’s a proper rugby town, it’s great fun to be playing for a team that’s got that.”
Born in The Bridge of Allan in Stirling County Scotland the 31 year old nicknamed ‘Russell the Muscle’ due to his slim shape for a rugby player, has previously played rugby union for Glasgow, Ayr and Racing 92 before joining the BB&Ws. He has represented Scotland in 75 internationals and is expected to feature in the forthcoming Six Nations contest this spring. Initially as a youth he played for local clubs in Scotland before spending time in New Zealand in 2013 as part of a scholarship with Lincoln University.
Before becoming a full time rugby professional he trained and then worked as a stone mason. He is partner to Emma Canning. They have a daughter Charlie Elizabeth – the photo is from Emma’s Instagram.
