After Dark Nights to Die For at Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein

This October, Mary Shelley’s House of Frankenstein has heightened the intensity of its notorious horror event, After Dark – nights to die for. In this multi-sensory experience, visitors will be immersed in disorientating darkness, isolation and confinement, and encounter new special effects, mazes, crawl spaces, and live actors throughout. Halloween Spooktacular at Wookey Hole

‘Skele- brate’ Halloween at Cheddar Gorge and Caves

Gaia: Our Home Planet at Bristol Cathedral

15 October – 9 November

Renowned Bristol artist Luke Jerram has created a stunning 7-metre Earth artwork, Gaia, exploring the wonder of our planet. With detailed imagery from NASA and accompanied by an immersive soundscape, the artwork will take centre stage at Bristol Cathedral this autumn with concerts, after-dark experiences, and climate crisis panel discussions.

Stargazing at Bristol Cathedral

As well as the Gaia exhibition, Bristol Cathedral are also hosting Stargazing nights in autumn, with an astronomer giving an awe-inspiring guided tour of the night sky including constellations, and the science behind the stars, with a telescope set up in the Cathedral gardens to see the cosmic views.

Visitors are invited to the Assembly Rooms during October half term for a fun-filled Halloween-themed crafting event. A variety of activities will be available, including creating origami pumpkins and turnips, making 3D haunted paper houses, colouring, and trick-or-treat hula.

Haunted Halloween at Old Down Estate

There’s Halloween Bingo, slime making, cupcake decorating, and the always-popular play bus at Old Down Estate Haunted Halloween event. Brave souls can also enter the labyrinth maze or there’s pumpkin carving sessions to get stuck into. Guests are encouraged to come dressed in their best Halloween costumes, as fang-tastic fancy dress is highly encouraged! October half term at Brunel’s SS Great Britain

26 October – 3 November

New for 2024, Brunel’s SS Great Britain becomes the Haunted Ship, where visitors can encounter ghostly apparitions of crew and passengers on board the ship, as well as hear spine-chilling stories from costumed characters in Victorian Ghost Stories. Woeful Wounds (recreations of horrifying cuts, grazes and blisters) returns, as does the popular Terrifying Turnip Trail around the dockyard and ship.

Pumpkin picking in the west

The west country cities Bristol and Bath are surrounded by swathes of countryside, perfect for pumpkin patches. This Halloween, head out to Pumpkin Patch at Avon Valley Adventure and Wildlife Park to pick your own pumpkin (weekends from 28 September – 31 October) for a gourd-geous autumnal experience. Pumpkin Picking Festival at Farrington’s Farm is also situated between Bristol and Bath with its 12-acre patch and a huge variety of squashes ready to pick, as well as a carving marquee, fairground games and fun rides, and straw pool (6-8, 13-15, 19-29 October).
