Bath Voice Sports News: Bath Rugby sit top of the league table ahead of their trip to Newcastle, the Larks have two wins out of two, and Bath City’s men’s and women’s teams have contrasting fortunes

Football: Bath City FC: With the departure of manager Jerry Gill and goal keeping coach Lee Kendall at the helm while a new coach is recruited the Romans fell to a 1-2 defeat at home to Boreham Wood on Saturday 30th November. Jordan Alves again was the striker on the score sheet for City with a free kick, but the team fell victim to a stoppage time goal giving Boreham Wood three points. Another defeat was against Welling United away on December 14th when they lost by one goal to nil. in the National League South. On Tuesday, November 17th, they lost out to Frome Town in the Somerset Premier Cup at home by two goals to nil. They play Aveley at Twerton Park on Saturday 21st December before an away game on Boxing Day at Chippenham. The Romans are in 20th position in the league just above the drop zone and could do with picking up points to move to safety.

Football: Bath City Women FC: Lose win draw is how it’s gone this month. On Sunday 1st December they took a knock when they lost 0-2 at home against league leaders Gloucester City but held out for a 0-0 draw against unbeaten Bitton Ladies AFC in the Regen Arable South West Regional WFL Division 1 North on Wednesday, 11th December. Then on Sunday 15th December they were at home in the league against Cirencester Town and won by 2-1 with Duffy, Thorner-Atkinson scoring the goals. Next game is on Sunday 5th January when they play Corsham Town away. Sitting in 4th place in the league they haven’t given up on promotion just yet.

Football: Larkhall Athletic AFC: An away win over Bideford on Saturday by 1-2 boosted moral with a 0-4 thumping of Malvern Town away has got the Larks back on track. They square up to Bristol Manor Farm on the 21st December with Shaftsbury on Boxing Day – both home games.

Football: Odd Down: They played Bradford Town on Friday 15 November at home losing 0-4 and in a 10 goal thriller lost out to Cadbury Heath by 6-4 away. A win against Gillingham on Saturday 14th December was a pre-Christmas boost. They next face Bradford Town away on the 21st December with Radstock Town on Boxing Day at home.

Rugby: Bath Rugby Union Club: The Blue, Black and Whites lost their latest game in the Ivestec Champions Cup losing 20-24 to Stade Rochelais at the Rec on Friday 6th December. Despite a strong start to the second half Bath were unable to overcome Stade Rochelais who held on for the win. Bath did claim a bonus point and take second sport in the group. For the record the BB&W tries came from: Tom Dunn and Quinn Roux while Finn Russell kicked two conversions and two penalties. Despite the high winds and rain Russell seemed unfazed – but as a native of Scotland where storms are common it comes as no surprise. Next up was another tough encounter this time they travelled  to Italy to take on Benetton Rugby in the cup. They lost by a single point with the score of 22-21 at the Stadio Monigo di Treviso. Bath’s points came from Tries: Niall Annett (22), Josh Bayliss (53), Thomas du Toit (57); Conversions: Orlando Bailey (23, 45, 58). On December 21st they travel north to face Newcastle Falcons on a 5.30pm KO on the Saturday before Christmas. Boxing Day sees them entertaining Saracens at the rec. KO is 12.45pm.

The are currently on top of the league table with 29 points – the same number as Bristol. Exeter is bottom with the possibility of a play-off against the top Championship club – should the RFU stick to their proposal in May of next year.

Rugby: Combe Down RFC: On 14th December they played Corsham away from home losing 35-27 in a high scoring encounter. They play Walcot on the 2oth December and Melksham on 4th January – both at home.
