By Harry Mottram: Bath Rugby’s Will Stuart enjoyed scoring a try in England’s emphatic win over Wales in their final Six Nation’s match at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday. His 39th minute touch down saw England run away in the second half with the score already 7-33 in the visitors’ favour. The final score of 14-68 was the worst ever loss for Wales in Cardiff in the competition and a record score for England there.
Scotland lost out to France in a closer game in Paris which saw Bath’s Finn Russell convert Darcy Graham’s try and slot three penalties which helped to keep the Scots in the game at half time. A second half saw Les Bleus stretch away to seal the 35-16 victory. France also won the championship with 21 points while England on 20 and Ireland on 19 shows how close the final day was with the top three teams only losing one game each.
On Sunday Bath Rugby ran out comfortable winners in the Premiership Rugby Cup at Sandy Park against Exeter Chiefs by 12-48 to seal their first major trophy in 17 years. It was a dominating second half when at the break the game was still in the balance at 14-17 after Tom Carr-Smith and Joe Cokanasiga scored with Ciaran Donoghue’s penalty to keep the BB&Ws ahead. Then Thomas du Toit and Tom Dunn touched down as Bath took charge with Ewan Richards and Louis Schreuder scoring tries as Dunn added another. Bath: Cordwell, Spandler, Verden, Jeanes, Richards (c), Green, Staddon, Barbeary, Carr-Smith, Donoghue, McConnochie, Butt, Redpath, Cokanasiga, Emens. Brad Ash and Mitch Beardmore scored to give Bath City FC a 2-0 win over top side Tonbridge Angels to boost the Romans’ chances of staying up this season. Manager Way said they worked hard to wear down the opposition and praised the players who have been gaining in confidence. He said the Bath press meant Tonbridge couldn’t get into the game and were denied chances and said the team played really well. With 48 points and in 17th spot the club look good the final few games of the season with promotion chasing Torquay next Saturday.
There were also wins for Larkhall Athletic and Odd Down at the weekend while Bath City Women and Odd Down Women both had three nil wins.
