Bath Voice News: B&NES Faith Foundation celebrates Local and Community History Month

From B&NES Faith Foundation: May marks a month-long celebration of Local and Community History, which this year is being supported by the Bath and North East Somerset Faith Foundation.

The month aims to encourage education and promote awareness of history, heritage and all those special landmarks in the local community. It also aims to inspire the whole community to get involved in outdoor activities, of which there are plenty of opportunities to do so across the district.

Nathan Hartley, Director of Bath and North East Somerset Faith Foundation, commented:

“We should celebrate our local area and community where so much has happened throughout the ages.

Each May is national Local and Community History Month. Activities happen across the UK and include trips, library exhibitions and local lectures. It is a great way for groups to highlight local history and for local people to get involved.

Do you have any photos or postcards of historic local places? Email us with a picture, we’d love to see it and share it across our social media channels.”

Bath and the wider Somerset area is full of fascinating history, monuments and places of heritage that anyone can visit.

“Whether it’s the Roman Baths, the Somerset Coal Canal, or the Radstock Museum – there is something for everyone in our local area,” added Nathan.

The Faith Foundation will be putting together a special montage of photos of events and activities taking place across B&NES during May. If you’re doing anything to mark or celebrate Local and Community History Month readers can email the team at info@bathnesfaithfoundation.org.uk

The Bath and North East Faith Foundation was established several years ago to:

• Support, encourage, and strengthen the work of faith groups across the district.

• Act as a conduit between faith groups and public bodies in ensuring they have a voice and have representation on issues that matter to them.

• Carry out research into socio-religious trends in Bath, Somerset and the wider area.

• Run community engagement projects with faith (and non-faith) groups

• Organise events that promote social inclusion, learning and understanding
