Sat 5 Jul. The Great Widcombe Bake Off and Feast at Widcombe Social Club. The Bake Off entries will be judged by Bath’s Richard Bertinet, and will form the basis of a three-course feast in the evening, followed by music and dancing to Junction 18. The Widcombe Feast, 7pm – Doors open; 7.30-8.30pm – buffet dining cabaret-style; 8.30pm – winners announced by category and prizes awarded; 9.00-11.00pm – music and dancing to Junction 18. Wed 9 Jul. Widcombe Wayfarers Walking Wednesdays. Join us for a friendly stroll. 10:00am. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, starting at 10am at the west end of Widcombe Parade. Walks last between 1-2 hours and are medium paced. Come dressed for the weather, with suitable footwear and be prepared for a few climbs.Registration not necessary – just turn up!

Fri 11-Sun 20 Jul. Holburne Museum. Garden Theatre Festival. Pride and Prejudice. Jane Austen’s story of Elizabeth Bennet and her romance with Darcy comes to life on what it hoped will be some warm summer nights.
Sat 12 Jul. Widcombe Boundary Walk. 10am. Explore Widcombe’s 1894 boundary and its historic stones. The walk is across country and includes some steep hills, about 3.5 miles. We will start at Ferry Lane, Widcombe, and will be led by locals Dan Lyons and Jeremy Boss. Sat 12 Jul. Bath Carnival. Each year over 1200 people perform along our procession route with hundreds of professional carnival performers joining forces with local schools, clubs and community groups to create a huge collaborative performance that takes over the entire city centre. The procession starts and ends at the Rec with a route taking in the High Street, Milsom Street and Walcot Street. Road closures in operation. Party in the Park; Sydney Gardens, 10:00 – 22:00, free; Live Bands, DJs, Food and Drink, Licensed Bars, Walkabout Acts, Super Pirates Play Area & Community Village; Bath Carnival Event; City Centre (starting at Bath Rec Ground), 15:00 – 17:30, free; Drumming bands, dancers, costumes giant puppets, soundsystems, eco-floats, schools and community groups; Official Afterparty; Bacana Funk takes over Komedia, 23:00 – Late.
Sat 12 Jul. St Mary’s Church, Bathwick. Bath Bach Choir Concert: A Celebration of Psalms. 7.30pm. An uplifting celebration of familiar and less familiar psalms: the Old Testament poems, songs and prayers from Israel’s history that provide us with uniquely poetic depictions of the praise, faith and hope of God’s people. The centrepiece is Leonard Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, his setting of six psalms that was commissioned by the Dean of Chichester Cathedral for the 1965 Southern Cathedrals Festival.

When Holly arrives in the quaint seaside town of Fiddling-On-Sea, she expects a quiet break from the din of the big city. City Sound Voices will join Matt Finch’s Horizons Choir and The London City Chorus in a programme of favourite (and some unfamiliar) choral works, including Whe’re You Walk (Handel) and California Dreaming (The Mommas & The Poppas). Then they will join forces to give you Faure’s Requiem. Door and bar open 6.30 – all proceeds to Peggy Dodd Centre.

Yvonne Lyon and Boo Hewerdine’s new album Things Found in Books is an album of songs written in response to a notice board in Culzean Castle’s second-hand bookshop littered with things that have dropped out of books.
Fri 25 Jul. St Michael’s Without. Trio Paradis Family Concert: Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Trio Paradis (Jacquelyn Bevan – piano, Ruth O’Shea – violin & Linda Stocks – cello) play a Café Concert at St Michael’s at 3.30pm on the last Friday of each month: informal music events which are ‘pay-what-you-feel’ via a retiring collection, to ensure all can attend. July’s concert is for all the family and includes music about trains – Little Train of the Caipira, the Orient Express, Chattanooga Choo-Choo…, a helicopter, jet plane, bicycle – and several other modes of transport. Bring a bicycle bell or a shaker if you’d like to join in! Our violinist for this month’s concerts is Sara Stagg. Tea, coffee and cakes – are available in the church café before the concert. 3:30-4:30pm.

Sun 28 Sep. St Lukes’ Church, Wellsway. Cappella Nova: Songs of Hope and Farewell. 7.30pm. Cappella Nova say farewell to Tony Shield, our conductor and musical director, who is retiring after 24 years of music-making with the choir. In this special concert we mark Tony’s contribution with a programme based on some of our favourite music both serious and light-hearted, featuring a wide range of composers including Rachmaninov, Stanford, Elgar, Vaughan Williams and Parry. Sat 5-Sun 6 Jul. Druids Lodge, Wiltshire. Stonehenge Polo Festival. From 11am. A two day equestrian event bringing you glitz and glamour with exciting world class polo and entertainment.
Sat 12-Sun 13 Jul. Tewkesbury Medieval Festival and Battle re-enactment. Gloucestershire. Apart from the sights and sounds of the 1471 Battle of Tewkesbury plus a large free medieval fayre and re-enactment in Europe. The battle was part of the War of the Roses battle, but nobody will be put to the sword – instead the are living history displays, food and drink stalls and a medieval market plus a medieval-inspired entertainment from jugglers, musicians and jesters, with activities for children and families.
Fri 18-Sun 20 Jul. Bristol Harbour Festival. The annual free dance, music and arts extravaganza returns with lots of family activities, music, circus, food markets and visiting vessels.
Sun 20 Jul. Theatre: Hush Hush! at Randwick Village Hall near Stroud. Micron Theatre production. Shhhhhh, you’d better keep it under your hat, because as far as the rest of the world is concerned, Bletchley Park doesn’t exist. Peggy Valentine arrives at Bletchley in 1940, 18 years old, headstrong and gifted. Finding herself in a world of boffins, soldiers and debutantes, Peggy has to shoulder the burden of high pressure war work whilst navigating a new world of feuds, friendships and growing up in a frame of absolute secrecy. 2pm.
Sat 2 Aug. Wells, Somerset. Bishop’s Palace. Light opera: HMS Pinafore – Performed by Illyria. 7:30-9:30pm. Set on board the warship HMS Pinafore, the opera cheerfully mocks such Great British institutions as Class, Patriotism and the Royal Navy.
