From the Bath MP:
Following the success of its first ever mini-festival in 2023, Twerton’s own “Twert Lush” returned to the High Street on Sunday September 1st, and Bath’s Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse couldn’t resist going along to join in the fun.
Curated by Bath Carnival, the event transforms Twerton High Street into a vibrant, family-friendly festival. With five participating venues offering accessible creative workshops, craft activities, and a diverse lineup of live music performances, some of the South West’s finest talent is showcased.
Hosted by Lib Dem Councillor for Twerton, Sarah Moore, Wera made the most of the wide range of activities and performances. After marvelling at the circus skills demonstrations in Rose Cottage she watched a stunning performance by Moussa Kouyate, virtuoso Kora player, accompanied by trumpet player David Mowat.
More music was on offer at Bath City FC from Salt Beef Reuben, Bath Samba legends Jamma de Samba, new brass ensemble Bigfoot Brass Band, and classically-trained violinist Mike Dennis performing his unique kind of string-heavy hip hop. The Super Pirates jolly crew and Fantasy Faces face painters were also on hand to entertain the kids.
Twerton Village Hall was alive with Flamenco dance and Samba drumming workshops, while the amazing team at Creative Twerton hosted a fun and educational mosaic workshop with the Festival of Archaeology as well as reprising their hugely successful Create A Sun Visor workshop from 2023.
Thanks to generous funding from Bath and North East Somerset Council and the West of England Combined Authority, the festival was 100% free for all to enjoy.
Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, commented: “I always love my visits to Twerton, and this amazing festival really shows this part of the city in its best light. It’s great to see all the warm, friendly people of Twerton coming together and having a fantastic time.”
Liberal Democrat ward councillor for Twerton Sarah Moore added: “This was a tremendous event that brought the colourful and creative spirit of Bath Carnival to the heart of our community. It was a joyful day for all who came together to engage with the performers and the activities on offer.”
Stu Matson Bath Carnival Director agreed: “It is always such a pleasure organising events for Twerton, and the second Twert Lush was no exception, with families from all walks of life coming together to enjoy a day filled with live music, creative workshops, and a true sense of community.
“We believe it’s vital for residents to have opportunities to connect and share experiences within their local neighbourhoods, which is why we are committed to always providing free and accessible events across B&NES.”
