Fri 27 Sep-Sun 6 Oct. Bath Childrens’ Literature Festival. Attracting some of the biggest children’s authors and illustrators such as Micheal Morpurgo, Jacqueline Wilson, Neil Gaiman and Anthony Horowitz. Wed 2 Oct. Galdem – Young Women’s Group. Bath City Centre Youth Space 28 Southgate St. Some new groups in the City Centre have recently started that young people can come along to if they would like. All of these are open to all young people 11-19 (yr7+ and up to 25 if additional needs).
Galdem is a space for empowering, supporting and enabling young women. In Galdem young women can just get together, chat over what ever they want to, make some crafts and enjoy being together as young women.
Wed 2-Sun 6 Oct. Reading is Magic Festival. A five-day festival which will be beamed straight into schools and homes across the globe. The festival teamed up with Bath Children’s Literature Festival, BookTrust, Waterstones Children’s Laureate, and Black British Book Festival last year. See https://www.readingismagicfestival.com/
Thu 3 Oct. Topping bookshop. Picture book reading group. First Thursday of the month at 9:30am. Each month they will select a handful of brilliant new picture books which the booksellers will read to the group. It will last for approximately 45 minutes. Tiny Tales is for children aged 2 to 5 years-old. They will have stories, colouring-in, and silly games as well as juice and biscuits for 45 minutes of fun. It’s free of charge, but we would appreciate it if you could sign up to help them estimate numbers. Parents and carers are asked to stay on site, but you are welcome to have a coffee and peruse the rest of the bookshop!
Thu 3 Oct. Museum of Bath at Work. Talk on The Untold Story of Funeral Trains by Nicholas Wheatley. The use of railways in the British Isles for the transportation of the dead for functional and ceremonial purposes from 1840 to the present day. 7.30-9.30pm. For more: www.bathrailwaysociety.co.uk

Sat 5 Oct. Museum of Bath at Work. Michael Cross Memorial Lecture. Local historian Nigel Pollard on Bath’s curious presence, with its own pavilion, at the 1924 British Empire Exhibition at Wembley.
Tue 8 Oct. Bath Young Musician of the Year 2024 at The Pump Room. The five young performers taking part are: Edward Blackwall: flute; Indira Pandit: cello; Katie Shepperdson: soprano; Jacob Wells-Luttrell: guitar; Hester Wiltshire: violin. This prestigious annual event is always a much anticipated part of Bath’s musical scene and the Mid-Somerset Festival takes great pride in knowing that many competitors over the years have gone on to enjoy successful musical careers. 7.30pm.
Wed 9 Oct. Bath Philarmonia at The Forum. Aaron Azunda Akugbo performs the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with Bath Phil. 7.30pm.
Wed 9 Oct. Widcombe Wayfarers Walking Wednesdays. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, starting at 10am at the west end of Widcombe Parade. Walks last between 1-2 hours and are medium paced. Come dressed for the weather, with suitable footwear and be prepared for a few climbs.Registration not necessary – just turn up!
Fri 11 Oct. Rock The Tots: Spooky Fun. Rondo Theatre. Created by Steph & Craig Mitchell. Gigs for little ones… and their grown-ups.Sessions are approximately 1 hour long, without an interval. Suitable for children aged 0-6, and their adults. Under 1s go free!
Fri 11 Oct. Chapel Arts. The Kate Bush Song Book 2024. With Matthew Bowers at the piano and Dave Roberts on bass backing the hauntingly beautiful vocals of Mandy Watson. 8pm.
Fri 11 Oct. Comedy at Upstairs @ Bath Pizza Co, Green Park Brasserie. Kai Humphries – Gallivanting. Journey into the mind of a once small-town boy, now internationally acclaimed and award-winning comedian, as he galivants around the globe sharing stories, observations and thoughts on the weird and wonderful experiences that have coloured his adventures.
Sat 12 Oct. Bath Craft Fair. Weston Free Church – High Street, Bath BA1 4DB. 12pm to 4pm. Supporting crafters and local Bath-based businesses, the Bath Craft Fair is a great place to be inspired by all of the local talent that Bath has to offer. Make sure to keep your eye out for one-of-a-kind gifts, decorations, jewellery, greeting cards and lots more!

Sat 12 Oct. Classical Music Concert. St Mary’s Church, Bathwick. Bath Camerata & Paul Spicer (conductor) ‘God & the Universe: Stanford & his Students’. To mark the centenary of the death of Sir Charles Villiers Stanford, this concert will feature some of his rarely performed partsongs as well as music from his key students including Howells, Holst and Vaughan Williams. Tue 15 Oct. American Museum and Gardens. Brilliant Beasties. Join these monthly sessions for pre-schoolers and their parents/carers. You will be singing, rhyming, storytelling and making, while learning all about the Brilliant Beasties, our animal friends. Children will be encouraged to explore their creativity, while building confidence to join in with the fun. Early booking is recommended. Each session will be led by Sally Warhurst who has many years of experience working with early years and is passionate about encouraging children to explore their creativity, while building their confidence to join in with simple songs and storytelling with actions and props. Get your Lederhosen ready and enjoy live Oompah bands, traditional karaoke dancing, Oktoberfest games, axe throwing, gourmet food, and big steins of German bier. Tue 29 Oct. Burdall’s Yard. The Great Jaydini Magic Show. 10.45am. Children sit amazed and watch in wonder as handkerchiefs disappear and giant bunnies jump out of thin air, and that’s not to mention the Great Jaydini shoe clean, the Great Jaydini suit jacket escape or the unforgettable card socks prediction.

He is best known for his work with Ricky Gervais, on Derek (Channel 4), After Life (Netflix) and Gervais and Merchant’s Life’s Too Short (BBC). His acting credits include Ghosts (BBC), Trying (Apple), Almost Never (CBBC), Four Weddings and a Funeral (Hulu), This Time with Alan Partridge (BBC), Being Human (BBC) and BBC3’s award-winning Murder in Successville.
Sat 2 Nov. Bath Rotary Club. Fireworks at the Rec. Gates will open at 4.30pm, giving a chance to buy refreshments and choose your spot. All funds raised will go to our two main charities for the event The Glasshouse Academy, creating positive lifestyles for the next generation, and Southside, supporting individuals and families living in Bath and North East Somerset to make positive changes in their lives and to other Rotary supported charities. Tue 5 Nov. The Forum. Fulltone Orchestra in concert with Cantiamo. A performance of Enya’s Watermark Album. Watermark was Enya’s second studio album but was her first major commercial success. It catapulted her to international fame, largely due to the popularity of the hit single Orinoco Flow. Cantiamo features 15 female singers. 7.30pm.
Wed 6 Nov. Beckford’s Tower Talk at Widcombe Social Club. 7.00pm. Dr Amy Frost to talk about Beckford’s Tower which has recently undergone a £3.9million conservation and reimagining project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
