Mon 29 Jun. Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI). Talk on the poems of Sylvia Plat with Amanda Golden & Nicola Presley. A discussion of The Poems of Sylvia Plath (Faber, 2026), co-edited by Amanda Golden and Karen V. Kukil, a new edition of Sylvia Plath’s poems. This edition builds upon decades of research to newly order and date Plath’s poems and includes previously unpublished juvenilia and extensive notes. Fri 3 Jul. Theatre Royal Bath. Talk on the SAS: The Great Train Raid by Damien Lewis. In autumn 1943, the SAS spearheaded the assault on Fascist Italy, clearing the way for Allied forces to land at Taranto. Simultaneously, a Yugoslav prisoner escaped from Pisticci, Mussolini’s brutal internment camp. Willard White performs the baritone solos as the combined choirs of Bath Bach and Bury Bach under the baton of their shared musical director Benedict Collins Rice with the Southern Sinfonia, jointly present William Walton’s magnificent oratorio and one of the most thrilling and dramatic works in the choral repertoire, Belshazzar’s Feast. 7.30pm. Sun 5 Jul. Bike Bath. The event will start and finish at The Recreation Ground in the city centre via the William Street entrance.There are four routes to choose from, approximately 24, 48, 60 & 75 miles. You must wear a helmet and e-bikes are welcome – there are plenty of hills! The organisers’ chosen charity is the Wiltshire and Bath Air Ambulance Charity. You can also raise cash for your own chosen charity. Arrive at the Rec between 7.30am and 9.30am – the shortest ride is around Wiltshire to the east while the longer ones take in the Mendips and Somerset including Cheddar Gorge for the two longest rides. Prices are £35-£45 and you can book in on the day for an extra £5. If you are unsure of the routes then groups of riders will set off together. Female riders can join a female only pod if they prefer – but arrive early if possible if you feel you will be slow – as the longest rides are expected to take around eight hours. Wear what feels comfortable – but allow for wet weather and if possible bring a basic took kit. Toilet facilities are available at set points as are energy foods as well. Wed 8 Jul. Museum of Bath at Work. Movie: Catch Us If You Can. Catch Us If You Can (1965). 6-8:30pm. £10. Museum of Bath at Work, Julian Road, Bath BA1 2RH. This strange and wonderful film from 1965 stars Dave Clark (of sixties pop group The Dave Clark Five) and was directed by John Boorman, better known as a documentary film maker. Many sequences filmed in Bath, including a house in the Royal Crescent, and a fascinating interlude in the deserted village of Imber on Salisbury Plain. Sat 11 July. Bath Carnival. All day events with a procession through the streets. The Bath Carnival is the city’s largest free outdoor arts event, bringing together vibrant street processions, live global music, and diverse cultural celebrations. The festival offers equal access to the arts through community-led workshops, culminating in a massive parade and a day-long “Party in the Park”. Party in the Park (Sydney Gardens): 10:00 am – 10:00 pm. A free family festival featuring live bands, DJs, licensed bars, independent food stalls, the Super Pirates play area, and giant puppets.The Procession: 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm. Starting at the Bath Recreation Ground, over 1,000 performers will wind through the city centre. The parade will feature samba bands, Rio-style dancers, eco-floats, and community groups.Official Afterparty (Komedia): 11:00 pm – Late. The celebrations continue indoors with DJs and live music performances.
