Bath Voice News: Peasedown pupils celebrate Harvest Festivals

Children at Peasedown St John Primary School have celebrated Harvest with three festivals held across the local community.

The school’s 400 pupils took part in the events over five days, with services held at the school, the Methodist Church and St John’s Church.

Pre-school and Reception children held their celebration in the school hall, while Year 1 and Year 2 pupils visited the Methodist Church. Pupils in Years 3 to 6 gathered at St John’s Church.

Headteacher Ruth Noall said: “The theme for this year’s Harvest Festivals was sharing, fairness and kindness, and also for giving thanks for the food and shelter many of us have.

“What made this year’s celebrations extra special was that we held three Harvest festivals in three different locations.”

Classes learnt and recited harvest-themed poems and sang traditional harvest songs, with one performance incorporating Makaton sign language. Younger pupils also made harvest crowns to wear during the services.

The celebrations also supported The Nest Project, with children bringing donations into school for the Bath and North East Somerset charity.

Ruth Noall added: “The initiative wants every child to have the best start in life possible. They provide free children’s clothing and equipment to families experiencing financial hardship in BANES, as well as providing support and guidance to parents and carers.”
