There were celebrations in Bath last night as Bath Rugby’s Ollie Lawrence was the toast of the Six Nations match at Twickenham where England beat Italy in an exciting encounter.
Ollie was named man of the match for his debut performance which saw him make 84 metres in 11 carries and tackled ferociously to help his team win 31-14.
The Bath Rugby centre told Bath Rugby Club: “I thought we took a massive stride forward. Steve (Borthwick) said to me that I needed to get us on the front foot; that was my job today, to get us over the gainline and get quick ball so we could attack the edges. I tried to carry hard and keep my head down. I did what I had to do and I’m proud of the boys of their efforts.”
Ollie, 23, was born in Birmingham and had previously played for England’s U18 and U20 teams. His professional career has been for Worcester Warriors until their liquidation in 2022.
Lawrence and England take a break from Six Nations action before going to Wales on Saturday 25 February.
Scottish player Finn Russell who joins Bath later this year also enjoyed a top game – scoring three tries against Wales and also being named man of the match.
