American Football: The University based Killer Bees stung Southampton Stags by 12-30 in an away game in a well-earned victory. Their next game against Exeter was called off due to a frozen pitch.
Athletics: Results – Martin Archbold (1:21:58) 2nd V40, Andy Alcorn (1:31:49) 3rd V50, Marianne (1:33:54) 1st FV40, Jess Ventham 1:35:54 2nd FSen at the AVR half marathon on Sunday 26 November.
Football: Bath City FC: Twerton Park was to witness a shock defeat for the Romans on Saturday 2 December when Chelmsford City gained an away win in a 2-5 five goal thriller. Cody Cooke had put the Bath side two up from two penalties which saw the Essex side reduced to 10 men. The club’s match report concluded: “he scores were back level on 58 minutes when Greenslade was adjudged to have fouled Ruff in the area and Hockey fired the penalty into the top corner of the net. And two minutes later a poor clearance by Will Buse allowed Hockey to be sent clear and he slid home his second and Chelmsford’s third goal.”
Football: Larkhall Athletic: it was a 1-1 draw in Cornwall for the Larks on December 2nd. The club is seeking a football secretary to take charge of registering players with the league and FA. To apply email larkhallathletic@gmail.com
Football: Odd Down: the club’s under 18 women’s team won 1-4 away at Wootton Under Edge in the Cotswolds. A great result after their last 10-4 win in November against Westfields.
Rugby: Bath Rugby Union Club: Wow was one online comment about the blue-black-and-white victory over west country rivals Exeter by 41-24 on a very cold Rec in front of a capacity Rec. The club said in a report: “The Blue, Black and White secured their bonus point victory with six tries courtesy of Alfie Barbeary (two), Cameron Redpath, Ben Spencer, Joe Cokanasiga, and Will Butt.” Bath Rugby return to The Rec next Saturday (9 December) for the start of their Investec Champions Cup campaign against Ulster Rugby (kick off 3.15pm).

There are four main teams – with two elevens of the Bath Wanderers Women sides and an U19’s XI as well. Cricket: Bear Flat Cricket Club
Established in 1982, the Bears are in Division 1 of the Wiltshire County Cricket League (WCCL) on Saturdays, with a home ground at The Glasshouse Academy, Bradford Road, Combe Down, Bath; there’s also games in Division 7 Blue of the Somerset Monmouth League on Saturdays, home ground the Ken Willcox Ground, Peasedown St John, Bath; and friendlies against clubs based in Somerset/Wiltshire on Sundays; and T20 games against clubs based in Somerset/Wiltshire midweek; plus they participation in the Somerset Knock Out cup.

Cricket: Hampset Cricket Club: based at Bloomfield Rise, Odd Down, Bath, the club was founded in 1940 and features a large number of elevens including the Scholars, development XI, midweek Saturday and Sunday elevens, junior teams from under 9s to u13s and indoor squads. Modern Pentathlon: Team GB had an incredible performance at the home World Championships held at the University of Bath, with a seven-strong squad qualifying across the women’s and men’s finals.

The Blue, Black and Whites are in the Champions Cup pool stages in 2023/24. Taking place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the home of next year’s final, Sarra Elgan and Vincent Pochulu announced Bath Rugby’s fate for their European campaign. Being drawn in Pool 2, Bath Rugby will take on two French teams in the form of Top14 Champions, Stade Toulousain, along with Racing 92 and the URC’s Cardiff Rugby and Ulster Rugby. Bath Rugby have also drawn Harlequins, however under the Champions Cup’s new format, teams within the same league drawn into the same pool will not play each other.
Within the new format, the Champions Cup sees four pools of six teams, totalling 24 teams. The teams are split into two tiers; the four winning teams from the 2022/23 leagues (Munster, La Rochelle, Stade Toulousain and Saracens) make up Tier 1, with the remaining 20 qualifying teams placed into Tier 2. In a club first, the Blue, Black and White will take on Racing 92 who finished fifth in the Top14, giving new signing Finn Russell the chance to front up against his former French side.
Recent Top14 winners, Stade Toulousain, may also get the chance to visit The Rec, giving Bath a shot at redemption after a narrow 20-22 defeat the last time the French champions were in town in 2018.
Cardiff Rugby, who picked up the Welsh Shield for 2022/23, were handed a 38-3 hammering in 2016 and will look for retaliation come the pool stages.
Northern Ireland-based outfit Ulster Rugby, who were knocked out in this year’s URC 2022/23 quarter finals, complete Bath Rugby’s Pool fixtures for 2023/24.
