Bath Voice News: notes on voting on Thursday, July 4th, 2024, plus a reminder of who you can vote for

By Harry Mottram: it is the duty of every citizen to vote in elections – although it is not compulsory – however in World War Two this country battled the dark forces of Nazi Germany so we could be free and democratic. On Thursday July 4th, 2024, you can vote in person in Bath for one of nine candidates to represent the city as the Member of Parliament in the House of Commons.

You should by now have been sent a poll card telling you when to vote and at which polling station. You can only vote at the polling station location on your card. You do not have to take your poll card with you. You can still vote if you’ve lost your card. Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on the day of an election (‘polling day’). Give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station when you arrive. You’ll need to show your photo ID to confirm your identity in some elections and referendums. You’ll be given a ballot paper containing a list of the people you can vote for. Follow the instructions on the notices in the polling booth and on the top of the ballot paper to vote. Every polling station must provide at least one large print display version of the ballot paper. Post your ballot paper when complete into the black box.

The candidates in Bath are in alphabetical order by second name:

Matthew Alford – Workers Party

A.N.O.N. – Independent

Dan Bewley – Labour Party

Colin Blackburn – Independent

Bill Blockhead – Independent

Theresa Hall – Reform UK

Wera Hobhouse – Liberal Democrat
