By Harry Mottram: pre season friendlies are notoriously poor barometers of footballing weather ahead of a new campaign. A time to try out new players, test fitness and play teams in higher and lower leagues. City have played two and lost two but both games saw Bath show an appetite to take on the best with a creditable defeat by 2-3 at Twerton Park against relegated Cheltenham Town of League One and now Two followed by a 0-1 at home to Bristol Rovers.
The club gave this account of the game: “A late goal by Bristol Rovers’ Chris Martin was the difference between the sides in an entertaining pre-season meeting at Twerton Park this afternoon. In front of nearly 2000 supporters – many wearing their England shirts ahead of tomorrow’s Euro 2024 final – City gave the League 1 side a stern test, especially during the second half when they enjoyed the better of the chances.”
Bath City next go up against Port Vale on 20 Jul and Bristol City U21s on 27 July.
