Bath City FC: The team lost out against St Albans in the league in the battle of the Roman cities losing 3-2 away although Russe and Wanjau-Smith both scored on 26th October. There was a second defeat when Worthing visited Twerton Park on 29th October when the Romans lost 0-2 under the lights. The defeats in the league leave the team close to the relegation zone on 15 points meaning they need a run of wins to escape the dangers of being sucked into a dog fight to survive despite a five point gap over St Albans who are in the drop zone. They next face Slough away on Bonfire Night and a derby clash at home against Weston-super-Mare on Saturday 9th November. Their FA Trophy match against Chertsey is in Bath on Saturday 16th November.
Football: Bath City Women FC: The women won 4-2 in their home fixture on Sunday 6 October against Corsham Town. Adella Clarke’s double, and goals from Erin Watkins and Erin Duffy ensured came out on top in this entertaining encounter between two good sides.
The team were not so fortunate when they lost on Sunday 27th October, 2024, at home against Royal Wootton Bassett Town in the league by one goal to two with Taylor bagging their one score. Next up is Purton away from home on Sunday 3 November in the league. They are in mid table in 6th spot.
Football: Larkhall Athletic: The Larks took on Didcot at home on Saturday 19th October in the league winning 3-2 in a thriller. They also overcame Bemerton Heath Harlequins on 22 October, by 2-5. They faced Thatcham Town on 26 October at home and came out winners by 3-0. Next is Cribbs on 2nd November away and Evesham at home on 9th November. The Larks are in 13th place in the league – just one point above the drop zone.
Football: Odd Down: On Saturday, 5 October the Down bagged a 2-1 home win against Hengrove Athletic but lost out to Wells City FC away by 4-0. They faced the Cheesemen of Cheddar away on Saturday 19th October in the league but went down to a two goal to nil defeat. Defeat in the Somerset Cup to Hengrove followed with a league defeat at home to Longwell Green by 2-4 on 26 October completed the gloom compounded by a 0-3 home defeat to Wells City on 29th October. On November 2nd they play local rivals Calne Town at home in the Jewson Western League First Division at Lew Hill Memorial Ground.
Hockey: City of Bath Hockey Club: On Saturday 12 October the women’s first team beat Team Bath Buccaneers by 0-3 away while the men bagged a 1-1 draw against Lansdown at home. On the 20th October a mixed team beat Keynsham 6-4 while the day before he men’s first team beat Stroud 4-3.
Rugby: Bath Rugby Union Club: The Blue, Black and Whites beat the Quins on Saturday 19th October at The Stoop by 24-26 and made it two wins in a row after a 40-23 victory over Sale at the Rec on 26 October in the Premiership with Ampthill away in the cup on 2 November. Their next league game is at home against Bristol on 9th November.
In other news Archie Griffin has been named amongst 34 other players in Warren Gatland’s Autumn Nations Series squad. And Ollie Lawrence, Ben Spencer and Will Stuart have been named in England’s starting line-up to face New Zealand on Saturday 2 November (kick-off 15:10).
The Bath Ladies RFC played Richmond at the Rec on the 26 October going down to an 8-26 points defeat. Despite the set back it was good to see the women play in front of a large crowd in the double header – with players of the match given as: Forward – Chlöe Fletcher, Back – Ellie Ratcliffe.
Rugby: Combe Down RFC: On the 12th October the first team lost at home to Royal Wootton Bassett by 19-38 but bounced back with a 24-17 win at home over Frome.
Rugby: Walcot RFC: The club have an unusual history with several name changes but began life in 1882 and currently play at the Albert Field Lansdown, Bath. They beat Salisbury away on the 19th October by 24-37 and narrowly lost to Royal Wootton Bassett at home the following week by 25-29. Next up is Dorchester away on the 9th November.

There are four main teams – with two elevens of the Bath Wanderers Women sides and an U19’s XI as well. Modern Pentathlon: Team GB had an incredible performance at the home World Championships held at the University of Bath, with a seven-strong squad qualifying across the women’s and men’s finals.
