Bath Voice News: Letter to the Editor – appeal for senior residents to volunteer to help school children improve their reading skills

Dear Editor, I am writing to appeal to senior residents who may be able to volunteer to help school children improve their reading. Time to spare? Want to help make a difference?

Reading is something we as adults take for granted. However, some children struggle learning to read.

RSVP (The Retired and Senior Volunteer Programme) aims to help pupils enjoy books so they want to read.

If you are over 50 and have a spare hour or two a week you could volunteer in a local school. You would then help make a difference to a child’s life.

Our volunteers benefit too by being involved with the next generation. In the words of one of our volunteers “It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience for me. The pupils we were all great, sociable personalities.”
