By John Wimperis, Local Democracy Reporter: The chair of the Bath branch of Reform UK has explained why he has been pictured wearing the uniform of the military wing of the Nazi Party.
Tim Nott, who chairs the Bath branch of Nigel Farage’s political party, is wearing a Second World War American uniform in the picture below which he supplied. But most pictures publicly visible on his Facebook profile show him in German uniform, including that of the Waffen-SS.
Images show him taking part in military reenactments with the SS insignia on his collar and the “totenkopf” skull on his cap. Mr Nott, a British Army veteran, said he was involved in acting with military reenactment groups and had also recently been portraying an American captain.
He told the Local Democracy Reporting Service: “After my 10 year career in the British Army, I found myself working every weekend. Being then unable to do the territorial army/reserve army, I got into acting.
“I’ve done much more than just German units. However, as films/documentaries are concerned, there [is] certainly a lot more work in it. One reenactment group I’m part of did filming for Fury and Saving Private Ryan. I’ve known many actors in the past, some that worked on the Nuremberg film starring Russell Crowe. Even at that level it’s a shame to see people’s reaction to acting.
“I’m currently in progress on a documentary being recorded in Kent. This documentary sees myself as an American captain in allied uniform.”
Mr Nott’s social media profile, which appears under the name Leemans Hecker, displays eight featured “highlight” photos, all of which show him in German and Waffen-SS uniform. The pictures were revealed on X (formerly Twitter) by account @BoneAshBath earlier this month.
Led by Heinrich Himmler, the SS was the Nazi Party’s paramilitary wing responsible for carrying out the genocide of Jews. The Waffen-SS was the combat branch of the SS, involved in fighting the allies in the Second World War and numerous atrocities. Other branches of the SS were responsible for being Hitler’s personal bodyguard, enforcing Nazi rule, and for running the concentration camps.
Reform UK came fifth in Bath in the 2024 general election with eight per cent of the vote. It does not currently have any councillors on Bath and North East Somerset Council and did not stand in the 2023 local elections. In the three byelections to the council which have happened since, Reform UK has come in fourth place twice and in second place once. The next full election to the council takes place next year.
