Tue 3 Sep. Elif Shafak at Toppings Book Shop. The award-winning British Turkish novelist will talk about her latest novel. She wrote The Island of Missing Trees and 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in this Strange World amongst other novels. At 8pm it is the turn of parent educator Eloise Rickman and Marchelle Farrell, author of ‘Uprooting.’

Mon 9 Sep. Uproar at Komedia. Bath’s first club night for adults with learning difficulties. The night offers a safe, relaxed and fun environment. 7pm.
Tue 10 Sep. Museum of Bath Architecture. Talk by Andrew Grant RDI on the Biophilic City in ways that attract tourists and support stronger local communities.
Wed 11 Sep. BRLSI Talk on Franz Kafka at 11am. Franz Kafka is widely regarded as one of the major figures of 20th-century literature, but does he still have something to say about the society of today?
Fri 13-Sun 22 Sep. Jane Austen Festival. The festival begins with a Regency Costumed Promenade, and continues with guided walks, costumed balls, theatrical performances and talks .

Sat 14 Sep. The Big Avon Paddle The Boathouse Newbridge Rd. All day from10am. Family event. This year there are two routes: the new 1.5-mile fun loop as well as the 4.5-mile loop.

Mon 16 Sep. Museum of Bath Architecture. Talk on Building Northandger Abbey by Dr Amy Frost to explore Jane Austen’s Gothic architecture (real and imagined). 12.30pm.
Tue 17 Sep. BRLSI. Talk on the RSPCA. In the 200 years since the RSPCA was founded, the charity has changed attitudes, behaviours and laws towards animals. suzanne Norbury on the history of the world’s oldest animal welfare charity and its historic connection to Bath.
