By Harry Mottram: It’s crisis time at Twerton Park as City drop into the relegation zone putting manager Darren Way under extreme pressure from the fans. The team is in 21st place in the drop zone along with local rivals Chippenham Town with the prospect of an end of season dog fight ahead of the Romans. Their last league victory was against Worthing on the 24th January. A Somerset Cup win over Street followed but since then they have had three draws and three defeats with the latest one away at Chelmsford when they leaked seven goals. In December 2024 Way replaced Jerry Gill following a run of poor results who since has been an assistant manager in other National League South sides and is currently at Yeovil Town. Way came into the club as the man to pull the team into some form for the 2024-2025 season with the team finishing in 15 place two points behind Chippenham. The game against Farnborough at Twerton Park on Tuesday 10th March is now crucial as the Hampshire outfit are two places above Bath, and a win would mean the Romans could leapfrog above them. In contrast Bath City Women are mid table in their league some 14 points above the drop zone with 23 points and five wins and two defeats this year with the latest win against Feniton by three goals to one. While there’s the small matter of the Six Nations continuing with its climax this weekend Bath have a home game against Saracens on Friday 20th March – and this Friday they also play Bedford Blues. With defeats to Leicester and Exeter their lead in the table has been overhauled by Northampton and they have a trio of clubs on their heels in the shape of Bristol, Leicester and Exeter. Meanwhile Johann van Graan’s men head to Mattioli Woods Welford Road this Sunday to take on Leicester Tigers in the PREM Rugby Club semi-final at Welford Road. Elsewhere Larkhall Athletic are in ninth place in the Southern Football League with hopes of promotion now looking unlikely. They next face Winchester away on the 14th March while their last home match is on 25th April against Mousehole AFC.
Over at Odd Down square up to Hengrove on the 14th March as they seek to stay in mid table above Radstock Town and Cadbury Heath. Odd Down Women are back to winning ways with a 0-5 thumping of Porlock away and an impressive 8-0 victory at home against Street in the league.
