Bath Voice Theatre News: a play about cheese comes to Bear Flat in July

From Micron Theatre: Mikron Theatre Company, the nation’s most prolific touring theatre company, is delighted to announce that Wensleydale Whey, A hilarious new cheese quest, will be arriving at: Beechen Cliff Methodist Church, Bath, BA2 4RF

In this legen-dairy tale, Mikron will transport audiences to the Yorkshire Dales where the stakes are high: monks from the Abbey are desperately seeking a living soul to resurrect their traditional Wensleydale cheese. This fromage-tastic musical journey delves into the rich history of cheese, featuring a whey out cast of characters, ghosts, and grievances. True to Mikron’s signature style, the show promises a gouda time with a cheesy plot and a sprinkle of drama.

“2026 is a milestone year for Mikron. The company remains one of the UK’s most prolific touring theatre companies, performing over 5,000 shows since 1972 by canal, river and road, and we’re also celebrating our beautiful narrowboat Tyseley’s 90th birthday this year” said Marianne McNamara, Mikron’s Artistic Director.

“We’re all big foodies here at Mikron, so a pitch for a show about cheese not a hard sell for writer, Lucie (Writer of Mikron’s Hush Hush 2025)!”

For over five decades, Mikron has been delivering professional theatre to hundreds of different venues, from allotments and fish and chip shops to pubs, village greens and even the odd theatre.

Wensleydale Whey is written by Lucie Raine, with original music by composer Amal El-Sawad. The production is directed by Elvi Piper, with musical direction and arrangements by Robert Cooper with set and costume design from Celia Perkins.

In keeping with Mikron’s commitment to inclusivity, every performance of Wensleydale Whey includes integrated audio description. Additionally, touch tours are available at every performance.
