International concert pianist Nurry Lee will return to Wells Cathedral School this weekend to perform as part of the school’s Rising Stars Recital series.
The South Korean-British pianist, who is based between Bath and London, studied at Wells Cathedral School before continuing her training at the Royal College of Music in London. Since then, she has built an international career, performing across Europe, Asia and America. Nurry made her Carnegie Hall debut in New York in 2023, after winning the Piano House International Piano Competition.
Despite her growing international profile, Nurry has maintained strong links with Bath and Somerset, performing regularly in the region and appearing at venues including Bath Abbey and the city’s historic Pump Rooms.
The recital at Cedar Hall on Saturday, 10 October, marks a special return to the school where she spent seven years as a pupil and boarder.
Speaking ahead of the concert, Nurry said: “It really feels special to be returning to Wells Cathedral School to perform a recital there. I studied there for seven years and have so many memories from the school, as I was a boarder there so I lived there almost full time.”
She added: “There was just so much music, with lunchtime concerts, concerts on the weekends, jazz, masterclasses and choir. It was fantastic living in a boarding house with musicians too, where we would play music together for the sheer enjoyment of it. With seven years of memories, it will be really special to return to Wells.”
The performance forms part of Wells Cathedral School’s Rising Stars Recital series, which showcases former pupils who have gone on to establish successful professional careers in music.
