By Harry Mottram: those with long memories may recall Yeovil Town beating Bath in the FC Cup in 1957 by two goals to nil. Remarkably the two Somerset teams have met on very few competitive matches as for much of their history they have played in different leagues although in the 1959-60 season Bath were Southern League Champions at the expense of Yeovil in one of the club’s best ever years. In 2020 Yeovil beat Bath 3-1 at Huish Park and the Glovers have had seasons in the Football League and in general over the years have played at a slightly higher level than the Romans. That is now set to end as Yeovil have been relegated to the National League South – the division Bath currently play in. It sets up a much anticipated Somerset derby next season and with Bath’s fine form for much of this season fans will be hoping that Jerry Gill’s team will do the double over their Somerset rivals.
Yeovil had been in the drop zone of the National League – the fifth tier of the English football pyramid system – before their away game at revitalised Wrexham on Tuesday 19th April 2023. The Welsh team have been injected with a new found drive after movie actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElphenney bought the club through the RR McReynolds Company LLC and brought some unlikely star dust to the Racecourse Ground. Their 3-0 win over Yeovil sees them closer to promotion to the Football League.
Yeovil Town are currently in mid table of the National League South. The new season starts in August and fans of Bath City will await with some excitement to see the dates of the matches against Yeovil.

A reminder that there’s a charity match at Twerton Park on April 30th.
Bath City have two away games before their final home game on Saturday 29th April against Oxford.
