Bath Voice Sports News: a busy weekend of sport for the city’s teams as Team Bath Netball lose to London Pulse, Bath City are home to Farnborough, and Finn Russell and company are in the Six Nations

By Harry Mottram: Team Bath Netball went up against London Pulse in the Team Bath Arena, University of Bath on Friday March 8th but lost out to the pace setters by 43-76 in another heavy defeat. On Saturday Bath City FC are up against Farnborough at Twerton Park and Bath’s rugby players are in action in Italy and at Twickenham in the Six Nations.

The Blue and Golds faced a tough fixture against a team set up to dominate in which they are under dogs but tried their best against a stronger team.

Meanwhile Bath Rugby players are involved in the Six Nations. For England Beno Obano and fellow prop Will Stuart are in the squad to hopefully spoil Ireland’s march to a grand slam at Twickenham tomorrow. Kick off at 2.45pm Saturday, March 9th. Sam Underhill and Ben Spencer in the back row plus Ollie Lawrence in the centre make up the Blue Black and White contingent in the English team.

For Scotland in Italy with a 2.25pm kick off on Saturday Finn Russell as co-captain with Darge will be hoping his side can produce another Roman victory against a revitalised Azzurris in front of a capacity crowd. Fresh from their 13-13 draw in France Italy have been no push over this year – and should have beaten England in their encounter – so a tough one for Russell and the thistles as they square up to the potential holders of the wooden spoon. Scotland look a class outfit and will be looking to finish as runners up to Ireland if they can secure another win.

Bath City FC will hope to stay in the promotion chase as they play mid table Farnborough having been inconsistent in the business end of the season. Three points would keep them in hunt in 6th place but they really need maximum points from their remaining matches if they are to stay in touch with the likes of Hampton, Braintree and Worthing.

Odd Down FC are at home to Portishead on Saturday and will hope to build on their last home win back in December against Warminster.
