Bath Voice News: Letter to the editor – appeal from the Alexandra Bowling Club to the residents of the city – come and have a go at this gentle sport with a free session on April 29th – and have a drink as well

Dear Editor, I am writing about the city’s wonderful short mat bowls at Alexandra Bowling Club.

Our members have recently refurbished the inside of our pavilion to enable our members to make full use of our indoor facility and play short mat bowls during the winter season.

On Wednesday 9 April, Councillor Alison Born delivered the first bowl having had minimal coaching as she had never bowled before.

Alison has potential as her bowls arrived near to the jack; this encouraged members to attempt a team game after which we had tea and biscuits followed by a further team game.

We certainly hope that Councillor Born will visit us again for the outdoor season starting soon.

Since, members have gone to the club for further games so we hope that come the winter season in October, the game will become a regular feature and more members and friends will join.

Our outdoor season begins near the end of April with President’s Day which is intended to be fun, followed by a simple meal.  We are a small club, but friendly, so if a reader feels like trying the game please join us on Monday 28 April.  Coaching is free and we have two qualified coaches.   After coaching and a game we partake of a hot dog and a pint so even if you do not want to bowl come and meet us for a drink.

Yours, Felicity Kite, President
